Welcome to Tigers
Tigers Newsletter – June 2017
Welcome back to the last term of the school year. Hopefully you all had an enjoyable break and are rested ready for a busy and exciting end to the year. For those of you who were not aware, I got married at the end of the break and my new name is Mrs Vaughan. We are trialling it in class but I am of course still answering to Miss Bowles.
Our topic for this term is ‘Castles’ and will explore the buildings themselves as well as their inhabitants. The attached curriculum map will give you more information. We will also be going on a trip in a few weeks to Warwick Castle and are very excited. We will get to see the castle and some of its fantastic attractions first hand.
PE for this term will take place on a Wednesday. We will be outside as much as possible so please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school for this. I would like to reinforce the importance of your child having the correct footwear for PE. In addition if you have any old PE kit or trainers/ plimsolls we would be grateful of additions to our spare kit box.
I sent an ongoing piece of phonics homework home last term and this could easily last you all of this term. If your child does finish please do ask for some extra phonics. The phonics screening check will take place w/c 12th June. The format is quick and simple and the children have been made familiar with practise materials and are well prepared so there will be minimal disruption to our normal routine. Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions. The results will be published alongside the children’s school reports.
We will continue to set Maths work via Mathletics on a Friday. Please do contact me if you are unable to log in or you are having any problems receiving this work. We would also ask that you continue to read as often as possible with your child at home and record any reading in your child’s reading record, whether it is their school reading book or other material at home. This acts as a useful record and a means of communication between home and school.
Once again I would like to take this opportunity to politely remind you that children should be coming in to the classroom independently. Please do not hesitate to contact the office if you do have any problems in order for us to arrange an appropriate meeting time.
Towards the end of the term we will also be hosting sports day at school with more details to follow and of course end of year reports will go out this term too.
I hope we can all work hard and enjoy our final busy and exciting term together as the Tigers.
Mrs Emma Vaughan
