Dear Parents, 

Welcome back, Tigers! We hope you have had an enjoyable Summer break and are ready to come back to school for some exciting learning. 

Curriculum 

Our topic this half term is 'Animals Around the World'. Please see our topic web in the section below. 

Please help your child to learn the 2-, 5-,10- and 3-times tables by heart – knowing both multiplication and division facts. Please involve your child in doing some practical maths e.g. using weights and capacity while cooking together, or adding and subtracting items. 

Reading

Children should bring their reading book and reading record in their bookbags every day to ensure adults can access these throughout the week, as required. The books are connected to our phonic scheme, Rocket Phonics. We ask that the children read everyday. If your child has been through the book band books at school, please encourage them to try reading a wide range of books. Abingdon library has great books to borrow for free.  

Please help your child to read confidently by reading to them and listening to them read, and by also asking questions to help build their reading comprehension. There are some examples of the types of questions you could ask in children's reading records. 

PE Kits 

This year our specific PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday, but please can we ask that your child has a full PE kit in school from Monday to Friday. The PE kit needs to include a red t-shirt, black shorts and trainers.  We will send these kits home every half term to be washed.  

Water Bottles

Please provide a named water bottle for your child as they will always have access to their water bottles in the classroom and children are encouraged to drink regularly. We can refill them as required. Please only bring in water in water bottles.
