Welcome back Giraffes and for a lot of you it is your final term of primary school! I hope you had a fantastic break and are ready and excited to get back to school. Your team of teachers this year will be me (Mr Clayton) supported by Miss Jefferies, Mrs Finch and Miss Walker. I will be out of the classroom on Wednesday mornings. During this time Mrs Callahan will be teaching. We will be working closely throughout the year with Wolves class and all of you will be taught by both Miss Knowles and me. 

Our values this term are friendship and community and then after half term it will be respect.

These will be discussed in assembly as well as during PSHE lessons. You are now the top of the school and I look forward to seeing you model our school values across the school. 

Our topic this term is a Geography focussed topic where we will learn about the local area as well as study rivers. We will also look at OS maps and learn how to read grid references and locate different landmarks on them. The year sixes will be going to Wales in November for the week long residential. This is a really important and exciting part of the curriculum and great opportunity for the children to develop their independence and have some brilliant new experiences. 

Our PE days are Monday (indoor) and Thursday (outdoor). Although, I do expect PE kits to be in school every day so that we can be flexible to avoid the worst of any weather. Before half term we will be practising our skills in football and gymnastics. After half term we will be playing Hocket and developing our fitness. 

Homework will be set on a Thursday and due in the following Thursday. I will hand out paper copies of the set homework each week. In addition to the homework I will continue to expect 10 minutes of reading four times a week, regular use of TTRS and practising for the weekly spelling tests. Should you have a problem finding time at home to complete homework I will run a homework club on Tuesday breaktimes and should you find that the homework is too difficult then please speak to a member of staff during morning work time where we will be able to help you- although not on Thursday!  

Students can borrow books from the class library and the school library. I have added some new books to this over the summer with some great finds in charity shops! If you are still struggling for inspiration then please speak to one of us or have a look at the link here which has some fantastic books.
