Houses of Parliament Trip

The Giraffes class, and some of the school councillors, visited the Houses of Parliament on Monday 14th October. We travelled there on a coach. When we arrived we walked to see the outside of Westminster Abbey. When we were walking back we stopped and listened as Big Ben chimed 1pm. After lunch, we had to pass through a security scanner before our tour inside the Palace of Westminster. First we went to Westminster Hall where Queen Elizabeth and other Monarchs have been laid in state. We were then shown round the Houses of Parliament. We saw the central lobby where many politicians are often interviewed and saw many of the statues of significant people around the edge. We saw inside the House of Lords from the strangers gallery where they were debating online child safety. Inside the House of Commons we saw the speaker sat in his chair whilst he was chairing a debate on defense policy.

The tour was truly fascinating.

After our tour we completed a lesson on how a law is made. We finished our day with a Q&A session with Layla Moran (our MP). The class asked lots of interesting questions and listened carefully and thoughtfully to her answers.

As a class we fundraised with a cake sale, thank you to all those that came and purchased the cakes. We would also like to thank both our PTA  and The Anson Trust who both made generous donations to enable us to experience this wonderful day.
