Writing - Winter Mission -Spring 1

❄️ Winter Mission ❄️

To immerse the children in what it would have been like to be one of Shackleton’s crew on his journey to the Antarctic, we took part in a special winter mission.

  1. To begin with, there was a scavenger hunt where the children had to work as a team in cold, wet conditions.

  1. Next was the “cold hands” mission, where the children had to hold an ice pop for five seconds before completing a fine motor skills challenge. This helped them experience how difficult it can be to complete tasks with cold hands.

  1. The final challenge was to use a “sleigh” to transport cargo. This was tiring and slippery work, requiring the children to be resilient and work together as a team.

The children then experienced the relief of coming inside from the cold and wet weather and warming up.

The children then reflected on their thoughts, feelings, and physical reactions to the cold, helping to support and enrich their future writing.
